There are many options available to treat cancer in animals. Each tumor type demands an individual approach and this approach may consist of a combination of different treatments.
As such, surgery and/or radiation can be used to obtain local tumor control. The first removes the tumor by excising it, the second treats cancer cells in the surrounding tissues via radioactive or ionizing beams.
For tumors that have metastasized, chemo and/or immunotherapy can be used. Chemotherapy uses strong chemicals to kill cancer cells, immunotherapy kills cancer cells by activating the immune system against them.
Below you will find a general overview of the most current treatment options. In the section “Tumor types”, you can find more elaborate treatment options per tumor type.
